Press "Relax"
"Comfort is a warm duvet that smothers our sense of dis-ease without actually unravelling our nervous system.”
Awhile back, I read something interesting about people who are supposedly relaxing. It said: “If you measure the vital signs of a person blobbed out in front of the TV with a beer, they are not actually relaxed, they’ve just numbed themselves to the feeling of their own permanently tense state. Comfort is a warm duvet that smothers our sense of dis-ease without actually unravelling our nervous system.”
Google says:
Relaxed = free from tension and anxiety.
Numbed = deprived of feeling or responsiveness.
When was the last time you pressed “Numb” on your remote?
Rewind: Presses “Numb”.
Pause: Rushes through an endless task list, exhausted from a job she’s not happy at. Has relationship issues and faces overall dissatisfaction with her life. Something is missing.
Play: Needs a high to get by. Drinks, takes drugs and overloads on junk food and Netflix.
Fast Forward: Presses “Relax”.
Pause: Shortens the task list. Sleeps more, works less. Nothing is missing.
Play: Finds enjoyment in ordinary. Lets the body do its thing.
When was the last time you pressed “Relax” on your remote?
We are so used to living fast-paced lives, forcing our bodies to endure stress, exhaustion, questionable diets, and worst of all, the attitude that who we are now, is not (yet) good enough. And in that process, our bodies have become numb and insensitive to the signals coming from within.
Press “relax” more often to actually feel how you feel. Expect immense pleasure of raw, unobstructed force of reality. Shivers-down-the-spine-like. Pause. Enjoy. Repeat.
